4th Grade Warriors Headed To The Crescent City
Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11:58AM Coming off a good performance in the AAU Qualifier, Warriors ready to dance in NOLA.
Put Coach Danario Edgar's Warriors, Houston Elite, TX BU Allstarz and ATR together on a basketball court. Pick a site, outdoor court behind a elementary school in Katy, 5th Ward, or on the grass in someone's backyard. Instead of a trophy, give out a funnel cake, gumbo and a Michael Jordan jersey.Call the event "Once and For All", and don't let parents watch it. These four teams are still going play hard for their coaches.
Once again, negativity dominates the scene for the 4th Grade AAU division. Is Coach Edgars squad better than the BU Allstarz or who is the best AAU squad in the 4th grade in Houston? From what we have seen so far this season, all these teams are good.
Our other Warrior teams wont be making the trip to New Orleans, but I'm sure they will next year.
All that could keep the Edgar's Warriors from winning the 4th grade bracket is themselves. DJ Edgar and Byron Schoby are the firepower along with Cody Hunter, Mike Moore and Kimani Briscoe with their coach's man-to-man defense may have a run for that 4th grade title in N'awlinz. Add the other players, all that lagniappe in the gym maybe about dis, dat or d'Udda but it wont be about about Coach Edgar's squad not representing Houston.
Good Luck Boys!

Okay Warriors Media let's have a sensible discussion regarding this 4th grade team. I am the Team Mom and am not going to hide behind an alias because that's not what I do. I am very passionate about this team and I've been reading the articles and comments that have been posted thus far and now it's my turn to comment. Please know that these comments are mine alone and not representative of the coaches or the other parents on the team. I read your comments on the previous article and was actually disappointed at YOUR unprofessionalism with the last reply as you seem to take issue with people disagreeing with your choice of words. As a writer, you must be able to accept criticism and allow people to voice their own opinions without the threat of disabling the website and what not. Authors of magazine articles and newspapers receive letters from readers all the time disagreeing with them. It's okay for people to disagree and instead of being bothered by the comments, you should welcome them even more so. Our team is not the least bit bothered by these comments as they are par for the course. We know who we are and we also know where we came from and how we got here. And it has not been because of any Warrior defense or Warrior training regimen but because we as a team put God first, we finally have a great team of committed parents, we have kids that want to work hard and play great basketball, and we have two of the best coaches in the city teaching our children what it takes to be responsible over- achievers. It appears to me as you are very comfortable with playing politics with your writing. If our own organization doesn't put us on a pedastal, and a well deserved one, then who will? The fact that you're still posing the question as to who is the best 4th grade team in Houston says it all. I would think it is the one who is considered first in the district but maybe that's just me. Those kids have worked very hard and have been through a great deal to get to this place. Let's not forget that two of these kids have been here since day one so it's much bigger than them winning by 20 or 17. It's about those two boys who were abandoned in the middle of the season last year and continued to stay together and work on being the best inspite of it all. They were hurt and confused but their coach explained to them the true meaning of a team and that if they stayed together, they will be better for it and now they are seeing it come to pass. The line about "once again negativity dominates the 4th grade in AAU" I think is negative in and of itself and makes you a perpetuator of that negativity. Let me be clear when I say this, we know who we are on this team. We are not going to win every game but we are going to play 100% and learn from our losses and take nothing for granted. My message to everyone is that no matter what, this team is going to press forward with or without outside support. Our philosophy is to not be concerned with being better than BU or any other team, we need to be better than ourselves. We need to keep improving our game and as we win, and please don't expect us to share our spotlight with any other team because there is only one 4th grade winner this year in the Gulf District and it's Edgar 10U.
WONDERING WHY A POSITIVE COMMENT WAS DELETED FROM THIS SITE RELATING TO THIS MEDIA WRITE-UP?
4th grade team mom,
Media didn't write that comment so you made the WRONG assumption. Many are "passionate" about their teams, but this is not the Chronicle. If you're not bothered by what people say, then why are you bothered that Media's not "writing" the way you want them to. Remember, your opinions represent the Rytes Warriors not just you, not matter how you lead it in.
Hey Team Mom,
Please advise me on what was unprofessional about this quote?
"@Truth Be Told, I mentioned that the Warriors were not fazed or rattled by Showcase. These kids were playing against some former teammates and surely when situations come up like this, players tend to focus on other things besides the game. I mentioned that.
We understand that your perception of what happened on that court, is your reality, but the Showcase showed a lot of promise as a first year team playing in a championship game and we wanted to recognize that......"
We have covered many of the teams under the umbrella of the RYTES Foundation and we have done our best to uplift, encourage and promote our children as well as other teams that we play including the tournaments that we play in and that is my job as a volunteer.
now, I would like to respond to your comments:

We understand that you are proud of your team and so are we, but we don't have to put an organization down, just so that we can be up. Part of being a youth foundation, its a bout the kids and making sure we promote them in a light that is encouraging.

The misconception of you win because you put God first....All teams and parents put God first and we show that before games and practices and after and we are sure other organizations do too. Talent will take you so far, so we are proud of the defense, offense and training regimen that is shining through the kids you are team mom for. I watch all of them practice before the season and currently and I see what our coaches are teaching them.

What you read in this article is a promotion of the tourney that you guys are about to play. It wasn't me playing politics but more so creating a buildup of the pool play in the NOLA Super 60. I was merely trying to paint a picture that these kids will play hard no matter the circumstances. I thought it was a positive thing....

the line about negativity...it's debatable, we know the conversation that surrounds your team but hey....

I love the passion that you write with and I hope you continue to visit the RYTES website in the future. This site was built to promote what we have going on within the organization, encourage those student athletes that wear the black and silver and promote our organization so that many other new student athletes join, other teams want a next level organization to participate in their tournaments and create opportunities outside the realm of basketball play on the court that benefits the children.

Thanks for comments, I have coached along side Coach Edgar and his assistant this year and last year and I have seen the transformation of the kids he has coached along with the growth that they have gotten from being in an organization like ours.
I have covered coach Dino's team in a positive manner and I hoped you have enjoyed the many articles that was written about him and his team.
